Steve Stretching Silk For Quilts
Silk fiber is stretched from about a 2 ft square to queen size as part of a quilt or comforter making process. Then 10 or more layers of this fiber mesh are stretched on top across previous layers to create the needed insulating air pockets. This type of silk comforter is both warm and very light. As the pic shows, I got to help stretch one of the layers and found it both very strong and stretch-resistant material.
